I've been fired five times!

The first time was before I even started work! I was picking hops on a farm, and the owner needed students for the following season. "Would you advertise for me?" he asked. "Sure, no problem," I replied, although I'd never done anything similar. He must have picked up on this, because he later told me thanks, but no thanks - he'd found someone else!

When I got the pink slip as an under-quota sales rep, I had no idea what to do! So I bought the book What Color is your Parachute? and went to a agency for career advice. Intense reflection helped, and I set up my own business so I couldn't be fired again.

But I still was ... from my own company selling computer performance software on license. They decided we were too successful - earning too much money - so they ended our contract and instead handled Canada as a region from the USA. We then had to close up shop!

Although I originally thought that being fired was a disaster, I now know that when one door closes, another door always opens.

There's plenty to stress about!

There are many, many reasons to stress nowadays - your income, housing, and health care costs; division, greed, and prices can all cause enormous stress. Most are from issues outside your control:
  • Unemployment is sky-high and jobs are scarce
  • The economy is in a terrible state, while politicians continue to spend trillions of dollars
  • Your share of the national debt is enormous, perhaps close if not even more than your family's total debt
  • Although giving even more drugs to an drug-addict does nothing to cure addiction, the government insists that increasing taxes will solve their budget deficit problems

It's tough to be open-minded when you're stressing. Yet as Charles R. Swindoll insightfully observed:

We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations.

You naturally think you're right to do what you're doing. But since you're not getting the right results - you're not stress-free - are you doing it completely right?

This is enormously encouraging! To improve anything - expand your knowledge of what is right. Wouldn't getting it completely right also mean your results would be free of stress?

My stress grew and grew! Bill's wife borrowed my car but declined to reciprocate as agreed. Rather than return it, Laura reported my car as stolen to the police. But I later found out she'd actually sold it to a black market dealer!

Bill begged me not to charge her with theft and promised he'd ensure that I wouldn’t lose financially. But Bill's commitment was not in writing, so he later refused to pay one red cent towards repairing the damage. I was out several thousand!

I have now eliminated all my stress from this incident. Imagine how appreciative you'll feel once you've reduced all your stress!
